01 · Your first visit
Getting started
Open the website studio and enter an email address your
administrator has authorized. Use the eight-character code from the sign-in email
within 10 minutes. Your session lasts eight hours; signing out or having your access
changed ends it sooner.
The studio is for managing your website. Accounts on
other websites do not automatically grant access here.
Bookmark this studio address.
Open the published website
to see the site this studio manages. Publishing here updates the website at this same
address; a separately hosted copy, such as GitHub Pages, does not update
automatically.
Edit a page→Review changes→Publish
Start in Chat: describe what you want to change, review the proposed
wording, then choose Apply to draft. Prefer to make a change
yourself? Choose Edit and click the text or image in the preview. No
web design or coding skills are needed for everyday updates.
On the left, Studio opens the visual editor,
Drafts lists saved work, and History lists published
versions. Administrators also see Settings.
02 · Everyday changes
Editing a page
-
Choose a page from the dropdown above the preview, then choose the
Edit tab. On phones, Edit also brings the page preview into view.
-
Click text, a link, or an image. Its controls appear in the Edit panel and the
toolbar above the preview. Selecting content while in Chat keeps Chat open.
-
Type into the text field. You can also double-click simple text on the page, type,
then click elsewhere.
- Wait for Saved to draft. Your changes are still unpublished.
Find in the toolbar searches every page of your draft for some text,
an email address, a link or an image name, and lists each place it appears by page.
Select a result to go straight to it. Use it to check that a change reached every
page.
For a linked headline, select its individual text to change the words; select the
surrounding link to change its destination. This preserves nested formatting and
layout.
Close the toolbar with its × button to give the page more room. Your
selection stays available to Chat and Edit. Use Show toolbar above
the preview to bring it back; your browser remembers whether you closed it. Press
Escape while focused in the toolbar to close an open option, or the toolbar
itself.
Select text to use the toolbar above the preview: font, size, bold, italic, text and
background colors, and alignment. Edit text edits directly on the
page. Reset to site style restores the original formatting in one
undoable action. Font sizes range from 10 to 160 pixels; check mobile previews after
changing large headings. Images show replacement and description tools; links and
lists show their relevant controls. Ask AI offers suggested requests
you can review and send in chat.
In the Edit tab, open Typography & colors for the
site’s approved fonts, colors, alignment, weight and italics. Choose
Use site default to remove that override. Administrators choose the
available font library in Settings. Catalog web fonts load automatically when used;
existing custom fonts use the website’s assets.
For contact details, activity lists, and resource links, click an item and choose
Edit list. You can also open Edit → Content lists,
even when a list is empty. Use Add item, Remove, and
Up / Down to change the list. Each item has text and an optional link
destination, including an email address prefixed with mailto:. Choose
Save list to draft to apply your changes. Closing the dialog without
saving cancels them. Undo and Redo work for list changes too. These controls are
available in areas prepared by your website designer; they preserve the surrounding
design.
Open Edit → Page title & search description to update how a page is
described in browser tabs and search results.
Use Desktop, Tablet, and Mobile to
check different widths. Preview links and forms are inactive while editing, so
clicking them selects content. Ctrl/Cmd + S saves pending edits.
Move stars on the History map
-
Choose the History page, then Edit → Edit Star Map. You can also
click a star in the page preview and choose Edit map in its
toolbar.
-
Select a star by clicking it or using Choose a marker. Drag it to
its intended position, or use the arrow buttons with a Small, Medium or Large step.
With a star focused, arrow keys move it one drawing unit; Shift + Arrow moves ten.
Precise position provides horizontal and vertical values.
-
To exchange two locations, select the other star under
Swap positions with and click Swap positions.
-
Choose Save to draft, then use the normal publishing flow when
ready.
Marker number updates the star badge, hover title and matching legend
number together. Each star needs a unique number; chat can propose swapping two
numbers in one action. Hover description changes the text shown over
the star. The longer legend wording is edited directly on the page. Moving a star
keeps its number and description attached to it.
Changes inside the map window wait for Save to draft.
Undo move and Redo also cover number and description
changes in that window. Cancel or Escape discards its unsaved changes. Once saved, the
main Undo button reverses the entire map update as one action.
Chat can help too: select a star and ask “Move this star slightly left”,
“Swap the positions of Stars 2 and 3”, or
“Swap the numbers of Stars 1 and 2.” Review the proposal and choose
Apply to draft. The map is illustrated and not to scale: provide a
visual reference or intended placement for location corrections. Chat does not geocode
street addresses or research locations online.
03 · Tell the story visually
Images & accessibility
Click an image, then choose Replace image in the toolbar, or
Choose another image in the Edit tab. Search photos
by filename, or upload a PNG, JPEG, or WebP up to 5 MB. Select the thumbnail to use
it.
Add a new image, flyer or ad
Click the text the image should appear below, such as an event’s description, then
choose + Add an image below in the Edit tab (or
+ Image in the toolbar). Upload the image or pick one from the
library, describe it, choose Small, Medium or
Full width, and select Add image. Inside a list item
the image goes at the end of that item; next to a content list it goes after the whole
list. Medium suits most flyers.
Click an added image to change its size or choose Remove this image.
Undo also reverses adding or removing. The website’s original images can be replaced
but not removed. You can also attach the image in Chat and ask the assistant to place
it; it is uploaded to the image library when you apply the proposal.
Give meaningful images a clear description: “Neighbors gathering at the annual Movie
Colony East picnic” is more useful than “photo.” For a flyer, include what it says:
the event, date, time and place. Purely decorative images, such as ornaments, can be
marked Decorative only in the Edit panel so screen readers skip them.
Check page flags images that have neither a description nor that
mark.
Uploads remain private until a published page uses them. A shared preview can expose
images used in that preview to people holding its link. Existing website images are
already public. Replacing a responsive image clears its old responsive source list so
the chosen image appears at every width.
Large photos and flyers are resized automatically when you upload them: at most 2000
pixels on the longest side, saved in a smaller format when that helps. A 3 MB phone
photo typically becomes a few hundred KB with no visible difference, so pages load
quickly on phones. Images are not cropped. Check page flags any image
over 1 MB so you can upload it again.
04 · One place for every event
Events
Choose Events in the left menu to see the events list. Each event has
a name, an optional title for this year (such as “4th Annual Frank Sinatra Meatball
Competition”), a date and time, a place, details for the home page’s
Next Up box, and an optional flyer or image. For an event without an
exact date yet, fill in the timing instead, such as “Late March / Early April”.
Enter each event once. Wherever a page shows an event’s name, date, time or place, it
fills that in from the list, so a change here updates every page at once.
Next Up always shows the next event with a date that hasn’t passed,
with its flyer if it has one, and moves on by itself the day after. When an event has
passed, set next year’s date (or clear it until it’s known).
Save to draft, then preview and publish in the Studio like any other
change.
Text filled in from the events list shows a note in the Edit panel saying where it
comes from, with Edit in Events. To write something different just
there, choose Unlink and edit here. To link ordinary text to an
event, select it and use Fill from the events list in the Edit panel,
choosing the event (or “the next upcoming event”) and what to show.
05 · Room to experiment
Drafts & undo
Drafts save on the server, so you can resume from another browser after signing in. A
draft can contain changes to multiple pages. Editors see their own drafts; publishers
and administrators can review all drafts for this website.
If someone publishes while your draft is open elsewhere, opening your draft brings it
up to date with the live website and keeps your changes. If you both changed the same
text, the studio explains what overlaps and offers to start a new draft. The Drafts
list marks drafts that haven’t been touched for a week or that started before the
latest publication, and the Studio reminds you about unpublished changes you left more
than a week ago. Publish drafts soon after finishing them, or discard them.
When an editor submits a draft for review, publishers and administrators get an email
saying it’s waiting, with a link to the studio.
Undo and Redo cover changes made in the current
draft, including direct edits and applied AI proposals. Undo is available even before
an edit finishes autosaving, and a change on another page takes you back to that page.
Use the toolbar buttons or Ctrl/Cmd + Z to undo and
Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + Z or Ctrl + Y to redo. While typing in a text
field, those shortcuts keep their usual text-editing behavior; use the toolbar to undo
a whole draft change. An applied AI proposal is one undoable action, even when it
changes several things. Its card shows when those changes have been undone.
Undo and Redo history resets when you change drafts or reload the editor. Your saved
work remains. To reverse an older saved edit after that reset, edit the content back
to the wording or appearance you want. To recover an earlier published website, a
publisher or administrator can use History → Restore as draft.
Discard permanently removes a draft after confirmation. It does not
change the live website. If a draft has an error, keep it open and copy important
unsaved text before reloading.
If someone publishes while you are working, opening the publishing review brings in
their updates automatically when they affect different pages. If you both changed the
same page, publication stops so you can review their changes and carry your intended
edits into a new draft.
06 · Ready for your audience
Preview & publish
-
Click Publish changes above the page. The number on the button
shows how many pages have unpublished changes. Pending edits save automatically.
-
Review the changed pages and automatically generated summary. Choose
View preview if you want to see the full website first, or use a
page's Preview link. Previewing is optional.
-
Click Publish. When the studio confirms the live version, you will
see Your changes are live and a View website link.
You do not need to write a description, create a preview separately, or check a review
box. The studio prepares a saved snapshot and checks changed pages automatically.
Expand any page-check warnings to review missing image descriptions, broken local
links, email links with a mistyped address, empty list items, headings or links,
images over 1 MB, and announcements or events whose date has passed. External websites
are not checked. Required image descriptions must be fixed before publishing.
Keep editing returns to your draft.
If the draft or live website changes after review, publication stops. Choose
Refresh review to review the latest saved work. If live verification
is unavailable after the server saves a publication, check the website or History
before trying again.
Open Share a preview in the review dialog.
Create 24-hour sharing link gives anyone holding the link read-only
access to the snapshot. Copy and share it yourself. Use
Revoke sharing to cancel access immediately. Creating another link
replaces the previous one. Private previews require sign-in.
Editors see Submit for review instead of Publish changes. Open it,
review your work, then click Submit for review. A publisher or
administrator can find it under Drafts → Ready to publish and choose
Review changes to publish. Submitting does not send an email or
change the live website. Further edits return that draft to
Work in progress; submit it again when ready.
To reverse the most recent publication, choose Undo publication on
the success screen or the newest entry in History, then confirm
Restore previous website. The preceding content becomes live as a new
version. Drafts and all published history are kept. If someone has published a newer
version, the studio asks you to review History first.
07 · Every chapter, kept
History & restoration
Published versions are stored in this website's database, not GitHub. Use
Undo publication on the latest version to return to the immediately
preceding website after confirmation.
History shows the author, date, description and version of each
published update. Choose Restore as draft to bring an earlier website
version into a new draft. Choose Publish changes when ready to review
and publish it. Restoration creates another version; it does not erase later history.
Download current website backup exports the current page HTML as a
JSON file. It contains website content, not account records or API keys. Your hosting
administrator should also back up the database and media storage. Media files are
referenced by the export and are not embedded in it.
08 · A helping hand
Editing assistant
Chat opens by default and uses the full side panel. Choose the
Edit tab for text, image, formatting and page-detail controls; choose
Chat to return to your conversation. Switching tabs keeps your typed
message, attachments and conversation. Selecting something on the page updates chat's
context without switching tabs. Undo and Redo stay in the main toolbar.
On larger screens, drag the divider along the left edge of the side panel to adjust
its width in either tab. Your browser remembers the width. You can also focus the
divider and use the left and right arrow keys, or double-click it to reset the width.
Chat keeps its header and message box in view while the conversation scrolls. On
phones, Chat uses the workspace width and replaces the page preview; choose
Edit to return to the page.
The welcome screen offers suggestions based on what you have selected. Choosing one
puts a request in the message box for you to review. Press Enter to send or
Shift + Enter for a new line. The context strip shows the current page and
selection; its × button clears the selection so you can ask about the whole page. Use
Stop response to stop waiting and recover your request, or
Try again after an error. Stopping does not apply changes; a model
request already sent may still finish at the provider. New chat
clears this page’s conversation without changing your draft.
Select an element if you want to point at something, then describe the change in the
chat message box. Examples: “Shorten this introduction,” “Make this paragraph more
welcoming,” or “Explain what would improve this headline.”
Attach images & documents
Choose + Attach beside the message box, drag files onto the chat
panel, or paste an image from your clipboard. Supported files are PNG, JPEG, WebP,
PDF, Word (.docx), plain text (.txt), Markdown (.md), and CSV. Attach up to three
files, with a limit of 4 MB per file and 6 MB total. Remove a file with its × button.
Add a request such as “Use this feedback document to revise the introduction” or
“Suggest an image description for this photograph.” You can also send attachments
without typing a message to request a review. The files stay attached for follow-up
messages until removed. Each page's chat has its own attachments; New chat and
reloading clear them. Stop and Retry keep attached files available.
Images and PDFs require a model that supports those inputs. Word documents contribute
their main body text, including table text, but not embedded images, comments or
tracked deletions; export as PDF when visual layout matters. Text documents must use
UTF-8. Documents are limited to 60,000 extracted text characters per file and 120,000
total; split larger documents. Older .doc files and other formats should be exported
as PDF or .docx first.
Attachments are private reference material. Their contents are sent to the configured
model provider when you send a message; provider retention terms and usage charges
apply. This website does not save chat files in its database or media library, or
include them in public pages and shared previews. To place an attached PNG, JPEG or
WebP on the website, ask the assistant, for example “Add this flyer below the meatball
competition text.” Its proposal shows where the image goes and its description; the
image is copied to the image library only when you apply it. You can also use
Edit → + Add an image below yourself. Review any proposed text before
applying it, since that text may quote your attachment.
The assistant receives the current page’s editable elements and the website’s editing
instructions, along with recent conversation messages and attached reference files. It
returns a proposal with specific changes; for a request that covers the whole website,
the studio itself finds the matching places on every page. Compare
Before and After, then select
Apply to draft. You can undo the applied changes. It never publishes
or changes permissions.
The assistant can change text, links, image descriptions, page titles and
descriptions, content lists, map marker positions/numbers/hover descriptions, and
allowed formatting. For example, select a picnic activity and ask “Add a star ornament
activity to this list.” It can also add an attached image below chosen text. It cannot
add arbitrary HTML, execute scripts, or change layout structure.
What you can ask for today
| Request |
What happens |
| “Move Star 1 slightly left” or “Swap the positions of Stars 2 and 3.” |
Proposes changes to editable map markers. Numbers remain linked to their legend
entries.
|
| “Make this introduction more welcoming.” |
Proposes revised text for the selected editable element. |
| “Add this activity to the list.” |
Proposes items for a prepared content list. Supply the details to include.
|
|
“Throughout the site, change the contact email from old@example.com to
new@example.com.”
|
Proposes a site-wide replacement. The studio finds every place the exact text
appears on every page (text, links, content lists, image descriptions and page
details) and lists them by page. Untick any change you want to keep as it is,
then apply the rest in one step; one Undo reverses them all. Link details such
as email subject lines are kept. Places the studio cannot edit, such as a form’s
hidden settings, are counted so you can pass them to a website developer.
|
|
“Add this flyer below the meatball competition text,” with the image attached.
|
Proposes adding the attached image below that text, with a description and a
size. Nothing is uploaded or changed until you apply it.
|
| “Improve the page title and search description.” |
Proposes metadata changes for the current page. |
| “Use a larger heading in an approved color.” |
Proposes allowed formatting, when those tools are enabled. |
| “Add a new page or redesign this section.” |
Needs a website developer. The assistant cannot create pages, change navigation
structure, or add layout blocks.
|
| “Look up the latest event details online.” |
Web browsing is not connected. Provide verified details in your request; the
assistant cannot open a supplied link to research it.
|
| “Add a live calendar, feed, form, or other dynamic widget.” |
Needs a website developer. Chat cannot create integrations or run new scripts.
|
Work one page at a time. You can discuss several edits to that page in a single
conversation, then review the proposed changes before applying them to your draft.
Chat does not automatically make changes across other pages.
Follow up with requests such as “Make it shorter” or “Keep the original date.” Each
page and draft has its own conversation in the current browser tab. The most recent
messages provide context, while the current draft determines what can be changed.
New chat clears that page’s conversation. Reloading clears
conversation history but preserves saved drafts. If a draft changes, old proposals are
disabled; ask for a fresh proposal. Always check factual claims, event dates and
contact details.
09 · Make it your own
Brand & settings
Brand & experience includes color pickers, exact hex values, and a
live theme preview. The preview updates as you choose colors or edit the welcome
message; choose Save settings to apply your choices.
Under Editing, click a palette swatch to open its color picker. You
can also enter an exact six-digit hex value, add colors, or remove them (up to 16
colors). The Font library has searchable samples, selectable font
cards, editable preview text, and a size slider. Select up to 12 fonts and remove
choices with the × buttons. These settings control the options offered to editors;
changing the library does not reformat existing pages. Fonts already applied to
published text keep loading even when removed from the picker.
Administrators use Settings → Brand & experience to change the site
and studio names, logo, studio colors and welcome message. These settings style the
editing tools; the public page design stays in its own HTML and CSS.
Editing controls which tools appear, permitted colors and fonts, page
labels, image-description requirements and preview sharing. The server enforces
disabled editing capabilities.
Changes take effect when you select Save settings. Every save creates
a settings revision. Choose Earlier settings to inspect and restore a
prior configuration. Memberships and API keys have separate controls and are not
rolled back with settings.
Under Settings → Editing assistant, choose the provider, exact model
ID, saved credential name, response-size limit, daily request limit and assistant
instructions. These settings are separate from Visitor chatbot. Under
Brand & experience, you can also change the studio subtitle and the
public acknowledgment shown in this guide.
10 · Your trusted team
People & permissions
In Settings → People, enter an email address, choose a role and
select Grant access. Then choose Review invitation
beside their name to read the complete welcome email before selecting
Send invitation email. Granting access alone does not send email. You
can also share the displayed studio sign-in link yourself.
Welcome emails include a short introduction, a button to open the studio, website and
guide links, two sign-in steps, three example chat requests and a summary of the
recipient's access. Administrator emails also explain where to manage teammates and
settings. Detailed instructions stay in this guide. Replies go to the administrator
who sends the invitation.
Only active members can be invited. If access or invitation details change after
previewing, open a fresh preview. An accepted invitation has been handed to the mail
provider; it does not confirm inbox delivery. If delivery fails, access remains active
and the hosting administrator can check the mail provider's logs and suppression list.
| Role |
What they can do |
| Editor |
Create and edit their own drafts, upload images, use the assistant, create
previews, submit drafts for review and view published history.
|
| Publisher |
Everything an editor can do, plus review all drafts, publish and restore
versions.
|
| Administrator |
Everything above, plus manage people, settings, model credentials and activity.
|
In Settings → People, choose Remove access beside a
teammate and confirm. This immediately ends their sessions, invalidates outstanding
sign-in codes and prevents further sign-in. Their drafts and published work are kept.
To restore access or change a role, choose Manage, set the role and
Access is active, then select Save access. At least
one active administrator must remain.
If the last administrator loses access to their email, the hosting administrator must
restore access through the private database. The initial administrator setting does
not silently re-grant revoked access.
11 · A welcoming public guide
Visitor chatbot
The visitor chatbot starts disabled. In Settings → Visitor chatbot,
choose its name, greeting, position, suggested questions, instructions, provider and
model. It can be enabled independently of the editing assistant.
Select the published pages the chatbot is allowed to use and optionally add public
reference text. Only those approved sources are sent to the visitor model. Drafts,
team membership, editing instructions and credentials are excluded.
Save its credential under API keys before enabling it. Set daily and
per-visitor hourly request limits. A daily limit applies to the whole website; the
hourly limit uses the visitor’s network address, so people on the same network may
share a limit.
Use Preview saved chatbot to try the same visitor interface while
public chat is still off. It uses saved settings and published knowledge, requires
administrator access, and makes real model requests when you send a question. Preview
requests share the visitor daily budget. Save setting changes before opening a fresh
preview.
Visitors can ask follow-up questions, use Retry after an error, or
choose New chat to reset the conversation in their tab. Enter sends;
Shift+Enter adds a line. Stop ends waiting for an answer; a provider
request already sent can still count toward usage. Answers are plain text.
Explore approved pages links to permitted source pages; these are
reading suggestions, not claims that each page was cited in the answer.
Up to eight recent messages, limited to 24,000 characters in total, provide follow-up
context. Conversation history lives in browser memory and clears on reload; the
website does not save chat transcripts in its database. Requests send that context to
the configured model provider, whose own data retention terms apply.
12 · The models behind the scenes
Models & API keys
- Create a key in your OpenAI, Anthropic or Google AI provider account.
-
Open Settings → API keys. Choose a credential name such as
editor or visitor, select the provider, and paste the key.
-
Select Save encrypted key. The input clears and the saved key
cannot be displayed again.
-
Select Test, enter an exact model ID your provider account
supports, and test the connection. This makes a small billable model request.
-
In the relevant assistant’s settings, choose the same provider, enter the model ID
and saved credential name, and save.
Save the same credential name again to replace its key.
Revoke removes the stored credential from this website. To disable
the underlying provider key everywhere, also revoke it in the provider account.
Keys are encrypted using AES-GCM with a deployment-managed encryption key, isolated to
their website and credential name. Only the backend can decrypt them to call a fixed
provider endpoint. They are excluded from public settings, model prompts, website
exports and activity details.
The hosting administrator provisions encryption and mail secrets before deployment.
Set spending limits in the model provider account as well: studio request limits cap
requests and output size, not exact monetary spend. No automatic model fallback is
enabled.
13 · When you need a hand
Troubleshooting
-
No sign-in email: check spam, confirm the email with an
administrator, and wait before requesting another code. Each code expires after 10
minutes and allows five attempts.
-
Sign-in is not configured: the hosting administrator needs to
configure the email sender and backend secrets. An API key for an AI model does not
configure email.
-
I need to move a star on the History map: use
Edit Star Map to drag, nudge or swap markers. If an older
chat reply said this was unsupported, reload the editor and make a fresh request.
-
Where are the editing fields? choose the Edit
tab, then select text, a link or an image. Chat and Edit share the side panel;
switching tabs keeps your conversation and typed message.
-
The editor toolbar is hidden: select something in the preview, then
choose Show toolbar above it. Closing the toolbar preserves your
selection and is remembered by this browser.
-
Undo is unavailable after reloading: saved drafts remain, but
session Undo history resets. See Drafts & undo for recovering
earlier content.
-
An attachment was rejected: check its format and size: up to three
files, 4 MB each and 6 MB combined. Large documents also have extracted-text limits.
See Attach images & documents for supported formats and
model requirements.
-
Draft changed in another tab: copy any unsaved text, reload the
draft, and review the newer version. Your stale edit was not applied.
-
The live website changed: reopen the publishing review. Updates on
different pages are brought in automatically. If the same page changed, reconcile
the intended edits in a new draft.
-
Publish changes is unavailable: the current draft has no changes to
publish. Undoing all edits removes the changed-page count. Editors have
Submit for review because a publisher or administrator must make
their changes live.
-
A submitted draft disappeared from Ready to publish: someone edited
it after submission. It is under Work in progress until it is
submitted again, or it may already have been published or discarded.
-
I published, but another website address still shows old content:
use Open the published website from
this studio. Publishing does not synchronize separately hosted copies.
-
I do not see a new-page or web-search tool: those capabilities are
not included in this version. See
What you can ask for today
for the assistant's current scope.
-
Assistant unavailable: check its model ID, provider access, saved
credential and request limits. Use Test to check connectivity. Manual editing still
works.
-
Model returned an invalid proposal: no changes were applied. Try a
smaller, clearer request.
-
Image or layout differs in a preview: the editing preview disables
page scripts and forms. Published pages retain the original site behavior. Check the
live page after publishing.
-
Unsaved changes: stay on the page, retry saving, and keep a copy of
important text. Autosaved changes are stored on the server, not solely in this
browser.
No matching chapters. Try a shorter search.
